What Is Thai Massage?

Formerly known as Nuad Boran, it is a wonderful healing path used in Thailand for over 2500 years. In Pali language, Nuad means “to touch with the intention of healing” and Boran refers to “Holy”. This holistic therapy focuses on the body as a whole, working on the energy lines that run through our body. With stretches and pressures, it helps to release blockages and improve energy flow. Traditional Thai Massage, is a unique form of bodywork that combines elements of yoga, acupressure, and assisted stretching. This beautiful ancient healing art originated in Thailand has been practiced for centuries… for a good reason.

What to Expect in your Thai Massage Session

Unlike traditional Western massage, Nuad Boran is performed on a floor mat. The therapist uses their hands, feet, elbows, knees, and body weight to apply pressure to specific points along energy lines. The body is compressed, pulled, stretched, kneaded, and rocked. The overall goal is to promote circulation, flexibility, relieve tension, and restore balance to the body’s energy system. Thai Massage uses no oils or lotions and the recipient remains clothes during the session.

The constant body touch between the giver and the receiver becomes a sort of dance to the rhythm of synchronized respirations.
